42-year-old Kelvin Pigi who hails from Ututuoama town, Ughelli South LGA of Delta State has been arrested by policemen after concealing a locally-made single-barrel gun inside a bag of garri.
Pigi was arrested on Sunday at about 10:30 a.m when a patrol team attached to Ovwian Aladja Division on a stop-and-search duty intercepted a commercial bus conveying some passengers.
The gun was recovered upon searching the passengers.
The command also arrested 23-year-old Godspower Alfred and 34-year-old Destiny Akwara, on Monday at about 7:40 a.m at a black spot at Ujvwu community in Ovwian/Aladja in Udu Local Government Area of the state while smoking Indian hemp.
A locally-made cut-to-size gun and some wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, through the Delta Police image-maker, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement, urged officers and men of the Command to desist from all forms of corruption and incivility when relating with members of the public.
“The CP had an enlarged meeting with Area commanders, DPO’s, Tactical commanders and other officers in the Command on October 8, 2021, and he reiterated the fact that the command under his watch will not tolerate such.
“Mercenaries have been put in place to check the activities of men posted and any erring officer will be dealt with accordingly, citing the two officers dismissed recently as an example to all.
“The CP also ordered that stop-and-search should be intensified, while constant raiding of black spot/criminal hideout should be sustained,” he admonished.
