Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Monday extended till 14 January, 2022, the police custody of Shweta Singh (18) and Mayank Rawal (21), arrested from Uttarakhand in connection with the case pertaining to the ‘Bulli Bai’ app, which targeted Muslim women by putting up their images online for ‘auction’.
The court also remanded another accused, Vishal Kumar Jha, from Bengaluru, who was the first to be arrested in the case, to judicial custody till 24th January, 2022 as he had tested positive for coronavirus.
On Monday the police sought further custody of Singh and Rawal. “The probe into case was at the crucial stage and hence, the interrogation of the accused was required”. The police told told the Bandra metropolitan magistrate.
Remember: Singh and Rawal were arrested by the Mumbai police’s cyber cell from Uttarakhand on 5 January, 2022, while Jha was arrested from Bengaluru on 4 January, 2022.
The police had earlier claimed that Singh was the prime suspect, who had created a Twitter handle of the app.
The Delhi police’s special cell, which has also registered an FIR in the case, on 6 January 2022 arrested one Niraj Bishnoi from Assam. Bishnoi was the main creator of the app, the police said.
